Texas Fatherhood Campaign Essay Contest

What?

The Texas Fatherhood Campaign (TFC) is partnering with the National Center for Fathering to conduct the Father of the Year Essay Contest. The 2007 Father of the Year Essay Contest is designed to raise awareness about the importance of fathering and give children the opportunity to reflect on what their father/father figure means to them. Geared toward children in grades 1-12, the contest is designed to:

  • Improve writing skills and stimulate a child’s thinking about his or her father, stepfather, grandfather or another father figure and the nurturing role he plays in the child’s life
  • Raise the level of awareness about the importance of fathering in our communities and focus public attention on what makes a great father

When?

        2007 Fall semester

Why?

This contest is great for kids:
        -Helps them communicate how important fathers are to them
        -Develops their writing skills

This contest is great for fathers:
        -Allows them to receive affirmation and encouragement about their role as a father 
        -Focuses public attention on what makes a great father

This contest is great for the community:
         -Helps teachers gain insight into the lives of their students
         -Generates awareness about the impact of fathering on children’s lives
